Don't Forget to Enjoy the Ride

Published about 1 year ago • 2 min read

Building your business from the ground up can be all consuming if we are not careful.

And often those around us don’t understand our motivations or just how hard what we are doing is so we can end up with tunnel vision.

And when that happens we can get so caught up in our work, what we are trying to achieve, that we we lose sight of what's truly important.

In my own life, I've noticed that even though I started my business to enjoy a good life with my family and dogs, I sometimes become frustrated when the dogs interrupt my work because they want a cuddle.

I would tell myself that I only I could just have 60 uninterrupted minutes I would be able to finish that much quicker and take them out for an extra walk or go play with them.

However, I recently came across a story that changed my perspective and helped me understand the value of focusing on what matters most.

The story was about Brian Johnson, the founder of Heroic, who was interrupted by his children as he was about to do some deep work.

Instead of getting annoyed, he embraced those precious moments with his kids, recognising that they were the reason behind his efforts.

This inspired me to reframe how I view interruptions from my loved ones, reminding myself to cherish these moments and be grateful for the opportunity to focus on what's truly important.

We are all works in progress, and sometimes we need to remind ourselves to slow down and appreciate the journey.

Ask yourself, why wait until you've grown your business to a certain size before enjoying the things that matter most to you?

Even if it takes longer to achieve your goals, at least you'll be enjoying the journey and living a fulfilling life.

After all, your business exists to serve your life, not for you to become a slave to it.

So, let's take a step back and remind ourselves of the reasons why we started our businesses in the first place.

Let's close the gap between what we want and what we do, and make a conscious effort to cherish what's important now.

There's no point in working so hard to create the life we want if we never take the time to enjoy it or miss out on the essential experiences that make life meaningful.

I chuckeld at the irony in this when the the first phase of the Roadmap To An Independent Income is all about getting clear on how you want your business to serve you in creating the life that you aspire to.

(By the way, the Notion version of the Business GPS is ready if you’d like a copy just hit reply and I’ll send you a link).

As you continue to work on your business, remember to smell the roses along the way. Why wait until your business hits some magical milestone before enjoying the things you love? Even if it takes a bit longer to reach your goals, you can still have fun and enjoy the ride.

After all, what's the point of building our dream businesses if we can't enjoy the life we're creating?

Keep this in mind as you tackle your daily challenges and frustrations...
